Sheku Kanneh-Mason, the British cello star, releases his first pop collaboration. “Same Boat” was co-written with his friend Zak Abel, the London-based singer-songwriter who has collaborated with the likes of Kygo and Avicii. The friends wrote the song together as a heart-felt musical response to going through tough times, a gentle ballad of collective hope. As Sheku explains, they wanted to combine “the raw, intimate sound of Zak’s voice with the organic sounds of the cello. Zak’s soulful vocals are accompanied by an intricate texture of sounds from Sheku’s cello, from soaring melodies to percussive sounds made by striking the instrument’s body.
